Travel Vaccinations

If you’re planning that upcoming winter break for some sunshine or simply a last-minute holiday you may require certain travel vaccinations to protect you from diseases found in other parts of the world. Examples of these include Hepatitis A, Typhoid and DTP (Diphtheria, Tetanus & Polio). Currently, the NHS routine immunisation (vaccination) schedule does protect you from a number of diseases. However, if you haven’t had booster vaccines recently you may not be covered. Additionally, there are certain vaccinations not available via the NHS that would be required to travel to certain countries

Ideally, you should be contacting your GP at least 8 weeks prior to travel, although this timescale varies with each doctor’s surgery. Ask them what injections you’ve had and if you are up to date with your routine immunisations. If boosters are required and within the time limit of the surgery providing them they can be done at your GP surgery. However, if you do not have enough time to have them administered from your GP then you may be required to pay for them privately at a travel clinic. At WellCare Pharmacy, we provide a range of different vaccinations as well as anti-malaria medication. We carry out an online consultation instore and provide you with options of vaccinations required for your destination. Should you choose to go ahead with them they can be done for you at that moment instore. We will also provide you with a certificate stating which vaccinations you’ve had for you to hand into your GP practice in order to update your records.

Happy travelling!
